The One Who Stayed

There are characters you love...

And then there are characters who feel like they grew up with you.

Since I was 10 years old...

Xander Harris was one of those characters for me...

Buffy's Side kick

No powers.

No prophecy.

No spotlight.

Just a boy who stayed.

He stayed when it was scary.

He stayed when he felt small.

He stayed when everyone else had something he didn’t.

And somehow, that made him one of the most important people in the entire story.

Because when it mattered most,

he didn’t save the world with strength.

He saved it with love.

The moment that proved everything:

There is a scene I will never forget...

The world is ending.

Chaos everywhere.

Darkness has taken over.

And it is not strength that saves it.

It is not magic...

It is love.

He stood in front of Willow Rosenberg, His best friend since Kindergarten...at her darkest.

No powers.

No plan.

Just love.

And it was enough.

He saved the world that day.

Why he meant so much:

Xander represents a kind of strength people overlook.

Showing up.

Staying.

Loving anyway.

Loyalty.

His humanity.

The way he loved.

The way he joked to hide it.

The way he stood next to heroes and still mattered.

He made me laugh so much.

He was the burst of fresh air in a show that could be so intense.

He felt real.

Like one of mybbestfriends.

My favorite Xander quote:

“They’ll never know how tough it is, Dawnie…

to be the one who isn’t chosen.

To live so near to the spotlight, and never step in it. But I know... I see more than anybody realizes because nobody's watching me."

I have known the kind of strength it takes to stay...

To love without being chosen...

To stand close to something bigger than you, to not feel seen, and still show up...

We were watching you...

We saw you.

We felt you.

We grew up with you.

We will keep seeing you… every time we press play.

Two loses, One story:

This moment feels heavy...

Because it is not just one loss.

It is two...

Back to back..

Xander and Dawn...

Nicholas and Michelle.

Two people who were part of something that meant so much.

Gone from this world, but not from the story.

A kind of forever...

Stories hold what life cannot.

Because every time I press play, it feels like time stands still.

Like nothing was ever lost.

Like you are still there, exactly as you were.

The world keeps moving, but the screen holds you in place.

A version of you that never leaves.

And maybe that is the closest thing we have to forever.

Thank you:

Nicholas…

Thank you for bringing life to a character I loved, and will always love, treasure, and cherish.

You made me laugh so much.

You were the burst of fresh air in a show that could be so intense.

Xander was something special, and that is because of you.

You live on in my favorite show to date, even after 30 years on this earth.

Until we meet again:

I hope you are resting.

And I hope you are reunited with those you love… including Michelle.

You may be gone from this world…

but you are not gone where it matters.

Not in the stories.

Not in the moments.

Not in the hearts of the people who grew up with you.

And not for me.

Gone, but not forgotten 🤍

RIP 🙏
