Faith Didn't Fail Me; My Nervous System Was Stuck in Survival

God gave you a nervous system.
He designed it.
Wired every connection.
Made it capable of peace, joy, rest, and love.
But nobody teaches you how to use it.
For a long time, I thought faith alone should fix everything.
I prayed.
I read Scripture.
I went to church.
I gave my anxiety to God again and again.
And yet… my body still felt like it was bracing for impact.
My mind believed God had me.
My heart trusted Him.
But my nervous system still felt like I was in danger.
And that disconnect created shame.
Because when you love God deeply, but still feel anxious, exhausted, overwhelmed, or stuck in fight or flight… it can feel like you are doing something wrong.
Or that your faith simply isn't strong enough...
I know that feeling.
I have lived it.
With fibromyalgia.
With chronic pain.
With trauma.
With BPD.
With OCD.
With years of emotional stress and physical exhaustion.
My body learned survival.
And once the nervous system learns survival, it does not easily return to peace.

The Missing Piece I Never Understood:
God created our nervous system to move between stress and peace.
We experience something stressful.
Our body activates.
Then we return to calm.
That is how we were designed.
But trauma, chronic illness, emotional pain, and prolonged stress can interrupt that cycle.
The nervous system gets stuck.
Stuck in:
Fight
Flight
Freeze
Hypervigilance
Bracing
Exhaustion
When that happens, peace becomes harder to access.
Not because God is not giving it.
Because your body is still sounding the alarm.
Your spirit can know you are safe.
But your body can still feel like you are not.
That is not weak faith.
That is biology.
Biology that God designed.

Faith And The Body Work Together:
For a long time, I thought healing meant:
Pray harder
Believe more
Trust deeper
Read more.
But I am learning something different.
God did not only create our spirit.
He created our bodies too.
And sometimes healing comes when we learn to calm the body He designed.
Slow breathing
Grounding
Rest
Reducing stimulation
Gentle movement
Releasing tension
Learning safety again
These are not replacements for faith.
They are tools God gave us.
Because when the body calms, the soul can receive.

What This Looks Like For Me:
I am still learning.
My nervous system is still stuck in fight or flight at times.
Fibromyalgia keeps my body on high alert.
Pain keeps my muscles braced.
Trauma keeps my mind scanning for danger.
But slowly, I am noticing changes.
Moments where I soften instead of brace.
Moments where I breathe instead of panic.
Moments where peace actually lands in my body.
And those moments feel holy.
Because the peace was always there.
My body is just learning how to receive it.

If You Feel Like Faith Is Not "Working"
You are not broken.
You are not doing faith wrong.
You may simply have a nervous system that has been carrying too much for too long.
God designed your nervous system for peace.
Sometimes healing is not just praying for peace.
Sometimes it is learning how to let your body experience it.
And that is not separate from faith.
That is part of how God designed you.
Spirit and body.
Faith and biology.
Prayer and peace.
Working together.
